Basketball ... Dancing ... and More Construction

Today was Robert's first basketball game - a church tournament. Byron was asked to fill in as coach at the last minute and so the two of them headed off to Bakersfield this morning. I elected to stay behind with the babies who have made previous basketball games hiddeous by running out onto the floor. I wish I had thought to send the camera with Byron because, contrary to all honest expectations, the boys won their first game and only lost their second game by 1 point. Byron told me that Robert ran the entire time and did an awesome job! Maybe he will have an interest in playing more?!? Way to go Robert!

Here at home, the babies and I just hung out this morning. I always get up and dance around with some of their movies and they will B-bop along with me and we have some fun. This morning, Josh took charge and grabbed Ginny and swung her around and around. It was adorable and they loved it when the camera came out - until they inevitably tripped and my little "gentleman" forgot to offer the lady a hand up. Then Ginny became more interested in my new curtains and Ben decided that HE wanted in on the picture action and chased Josh down until Josh agreed to dance around with him too ... our version of the Mango (you had to see Dancing with the Stars Season 6 to get that reference). After lunch, I tried to put the babies down and paint. The didn't take a nap, but I made them stay in their room until the hallway was dry. I had hoped to paint the bathroom too and be ready for Byron to get my white paint down from the garage, but one wall is better than no walls. At this rate, I will be painting until Robert goes on his mission! Still, the hallway looks nice!

I love having nice weather + a big backyard + a FENCE. The kids love being outside and I love knowing that I can see them. Here you see Ben and Ginny throwing dirt into our neighbors bush. The funny part is that Ben is directly behind Ginny so that every handful he threw hit her first, coicidence? Hmmmmmm Thursday David and Cesar finally knocked out the door to the living room and our project added a new dimension of fun. Here is Robert guarding the entrance at one point. When Byron got home, we loaded up the babies and went for a long walk around Squirrel Valley. The kids had a great time and we decided that pulling 100+ lbs uphill was for the birds. Friday Byron valiantly offered to take the kids with him to LA where he had to take his bike for its tune-up. The original thought was to drive down and drop the bike off and head to a nice park to let the kids run and enjoy our lovely spring weather. What happened was that the bike needs to have a new part (something called "the Brain") replaced and the shop needed to keep it for a week at least. So, Byron decided to just drive straight back which turned out to be 7 hours of car seat time for the kids who more or less just revolted. Byron has informed me that he is never doing that again. I, on the other hand, had a great day! I should have painted and cleaned, but instead I went to lunch with a friend, ran an errand, and had a great dinner with more friends. Also today, our stucco was done ... in another 10days or so he will come and put a colored coat on which will not quite match the rest - I'll have paint that.

While I waited for the pictures to load for this posting, I took the babies out for a walk. It was soooo much fun to get out without having to carry anyone! After about 500 yards Josh said, "Wow, Mommy this is a really LONG walk!" I told him we were going to have to get out every day. The had a blast when we got off the main road and I let them run. It is wonderful living away from the metropolis!

  1. Funny stuff. 7 hour car ride? That's awesome. Especially since you weren't there!
